First Visit

Welcome to Hampton Cove Pediatric Dentistry, where we make dental care for kids fun and enjoyable. Our team of friendly staff is committed to providing exceptional care to your children in a warm and nurturing environment. We strive to make your child’s first visit to the dentist as positive and stress-free as possible, creating healthy dental habits that will last a lifetime.

Your Child's First Visit

The American Academy of Pediatrics, The American Dental Association, and The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry all recommend establishing a “Dental Home” for your child by one year of age. Children who have a dental home are more likely to receive appropriate preventive and routine oral health care.

Prior to their appointment, tell your child that the dentist is a friendly doctor who will help your teeth stay healthy. Talk about the visit in a positive, age appropriate way, as you would about any new experience. Avoid projecting any negative feelings you may have regarding a dental visit, being careful to avoid negative words. A visit to our office can be a very pleasant adventure for both you and your child.

What To Expect

Welcome to Hampton Cove Pediatric Dentistry, where we strive to provide a comfortable and enjoyable dental experience for your child. During your child’s first visit, we want to ensure that they feel at ease and understand the importance of good dental care. Our friendly dental team will greet you and your child upon arrival and take the time to introduce themselves. We will then guide your child through a brief tour of our office and show them the dental instruments we will use during the visit, such as our tiny mouth mirror and tooth counter.

Next, the dentist will perform a gentle examination of your child’s teeth, gums, and mouth. If your child is younger, we may suggest a “lap exam” where the child sits in a parent’s lap and leans back toward the dentist. This approach helps us conduct a thorough examination more quickly, while also keeping your child comfortable and secure. At Hampton Cove Pediatric Dentistry, we are committed to creating a positive and welcoming environment for your child. Our team is dedicated to providing exceptional care, and we look forward to serving you and your family for all of your dental needs.

At Your Child's Pace

We understand that every child is unique and may have individual sensitivities. We strive to make every dental appointment as comfortable and stress-free as possible, which is why we take a personalized approach to your child’s dental care. If your child is apprehensive, our dental team may skip certain aspects of the appointment to ensure they have a positive experience. Our goal is for our patients to leave our office with a smile on their face. We believe that pleasant visits and encouraging words from our team, as well as caregivers, help establish trust and confidence that will last a lifetime.

Depending on your child’s age and comfort level, we may perform a thorough cleaning of their teeth and provide a fluoride treatment to protect against tooth decay. We only take x-rays if necessary and typically beginning around age 4. X-rays allow us to detect tooth decay between teeth and assess the development of permanent teeth. During the appointment, we will also conduct a developmental check and make referrals to a local orthodontist when necessary. If additional treatment, such as fillings, are needed, we will schedule additional appointments to ensure the best possible outcome for your child.
